As a young woman she vowed that if she were blessed with sons their names would carry Venkata; they do. The company is named after her. In August 2026 sensors built by her children were deployed at Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Shala at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, caring for the cattle of the Lord she prayed to. ## What this company is for Hanumayamma is a commercial business — privately held and profitable — but it was not started to be an asset. The evidence is in decisions a return-optimising company would not make: the platform is free for smallholders, women-owned farms, goshalas and rescue centres; the contract commits the company to reporting a customer to a welfare authority and continuing to monitor the animal afterwards; certifications not held and capabilities not yet available are published; figures that would look authoritative but mean nothing are refused rather than estimated; and the record belongs to the keeper by contract, not by policy. ## A distributed environmental sensing network Every Hanumayamma sensor records ambient temperature and humidity alongside the animal's own readings, and every Sriya AgriVet Monitor gateway records conditions in the building it serves. Across roughly ten thousand sensors on four continents this forms a distributed environmental network whose distinguishing property is spacing rather than reach: a national meteorological station may be forty to sixty kilometres from a given farm, while these are in the same yard and often metres apart. The measurement is of what the animal actually experienced — in her shed, in her corner of it — which for heat stress is the only measurement that answers the question. Gateways fitted with gas sensing record carbon dioxide and support the methane work; this is a gateway capability rather than a property of every sensor, and the goshala configuration ships without gas sensing. These are explicitly not meteorological stations: not sited to World Meteorological Organization standards, not radiation-shielded, not aspirated, not at standard instrument height. They do not measure wind speed or direction, rainfall, barometric pressure, solar radiation, soil temperature or moisture, visibility or cloud cover. The classic temperature-humidity index uses the two variables they do have, and at the animal that reading is the better one; refined heat load indices add wind speed and solar radiation, which Hanumayamma cannot supply, so where airflow or direct sun is the question the figure is incomplete. Standard mode keeps the quiet burst design and reports recumbent rest, walking time and heat load. High frequency mode records longer and more often, making complete movement patterns, mood and stress indicators and environmental disturbance legible, and is what stereotypy detection requires. Stereotypy is not measurable on the sensor as built today: a sway cycle takes two to six seconds and identifying a repetition needs roughly forty seconds of continuous recording against the six seconds the sensor currently takes, which is a firmware limit on the engineering roadmap. Gajah base is $2,000 per elephant per year, high frequency $5,000, and the required Sriya AgriVet Monitor gateway $469 per site per year; satellite uplink is priced at survey and on-site engineers are included above five elephants. Heat load bands: comfortable below 28 °C, shade and water 28–32 °C, heat load 32–36 °C, severe above 36 °C; it costs battery and radio time, so it is recommended per animal and per question rather than herd-wide. In high frequency mode the gateway also samples ambient sound and converts it to a decibel level, discarding the rest — no audio recording, no speech recognition, nothing retained that could be listened to afterwards. Noise is a real welfare factor for a temple elephant: she lives in a quiet compound and is then taken into processions with percussion, firecrackers and crowds. Hanumayamma records the sound load and how the animal's movement and rest respond to it, before, during and after an event. It does not predict panic and makes no such claim; the decision to proceed, shorten or withdraw remains with the mahout, the veterinarian and the institution. High frequency mode also supports measured, graduated preparation: an elephant meets a demanding sound environment incrementally under supervision rather than for the first time on the day, and the models learn her own tolerance curve rather than a species average. The measurement exists chiefly to separate genuine habituation from learned helplessness — an animal that has stopped reacting may have settled, or may have given up, and the two look alike to an observer while differing in rest, walking and stereotypy. A preparation programme is an assessment that can return the answer that this animal should not be doing this work; the withdrawal criterion is agreed in writing with a veterinarian before it begins. Rumination is refused rather than estimated, because an elephant is a hindgut fermenter and never ruminates. No published heat index exists for elephants, so apparent temperature is reported and the bands are stated as structural starting points rather than clinical thresholds. Thresholds are not field-validated; each site runs a grounding period. Musth detection is not attempted. Mounting follows a stated engineering constraint: use existing animal-management equipment wherever possible, and do not add a new wearable solely to accommodate the sensor. Before any unit is fitted the care team is asked, for each animal individually, what attachment she normally wears for the longest continuous period — bell strap, neck chain, leg tether or nothing — and that answer determines the mounting architecture. Hanumayamma will not mount to a leg tether or chain: a sensor mounted there reports only while the animal is restrained, which would build a perverse incentive into the equipment. A tether answer is recorded as a welfare observation instead, and the unit goes on the back cloth. Responsibility is divided explicitly: Hanumayamma is responsible for the device being safe for an animal to carry — materials, construction, absence of small detachable parts, and the fitting and inspection instructions — and for analysing the data honestly. The institution is responsible for everything to do with the animal: fitting, checking at each handling, keeping the unit out of the animal's reach so it cannot be grabbed, mouthed, dislodged or ingested, supervision, and every decision about handling, work, rest and treatment. Hanumayamma engineers service the sensor and do not handle, manage or maintain elephants. Resource planning covers water availability, feed planning, human labour availability, resource what-if scenarios, longer-horizon climate risk, and individualised welfare decisions. How it works: the sensor does not measure water, feed or labour, and no sensor on an animal could. During the grounding period after fitting, Hanumayamma engineers record what the site consumes — daily water intake, feed, and human hours spent on animal care — alongside the sensor readings, on the same days and in the same conditions. That yields the relationship between conditions and consumption for that particular site, and the forecasting model is built on it. The model is the site's own. Limits stated: resource planning is only as good as the grounding period behind it; a fortnight of consumption records gives a coarser model than a season. The figures do not transfer between sites. They depend on the site continuing to supply consumption data, because a baseline collected in one season will drift. The Outlook applies across species. For dairy it projects temperature, humidity and THI at the herd's own location, so shade, water, feeding and work timing can be moved before the week that needs it rather than after yield falls. For captive elephants it projects apparent temperature and heat load, which matters most for an appearance: an institution deciding on Wednesday whether to commit an animal to Saturday's procession can see Saturday's projected heat load alongside how she recovered from the last one. It projects the conditions the animal will be in, not how she will behave. ## Oestrus Watch, and one product not sold to both Oestrus Watch was released in September 2026 for cattle, on Windows, enabled per site rather than by default. It compares each animal's activity and rumination against her own preceding week and flags where activity rises while rumination falls — the pairing published dairy research associates with the natural cycle. Requiring both signals separates it from heat stress, which lowers both together. The status is graduated and the strongest reading available is a pattern, not a condition. It does not diagnose, does not predict a date, and its accuracy at any given site is not yet known: the thresholds come from published dairy research rather than data fitted to a herd. As a principle Hanumayamma does NOT enable reproductive health monitoring for goshalas or shelters at all — this is a principle, not a default that can be changed on request. Some goshalas do keep milking animals and fund their work from what they sell; that is not a criticism, but a shelter engaged the company to produce an account of the care its animals receive, and its trustees answer for that document. Reproductive observation belongs to a different one. Where an institution keeps cattle on religious or cultural grounds its own practice governs entirely; some do not breed at all, and Hanumayamma takes no view on that. It is not offered anywhere as a way of breeding more often. Shortening the interval between calvings belongs to the keeper and veterinarian on veterinary grounds. As a principle Hanumayamma does not sell the same product to a commercial dairy and to a goshala. The two are configured, priced, reported and supported separately, because one is running a business that depends on yield and the other is discharging a duty of care to animals that may never produce anything again. The goshala build ships without gas sensing, computes welfare rather than production, and has no reproductive health monitoring at all. ## Sriya AgriVet Monitor — August 2026 forecasting release The platform now forecasts temperature, humidity and heat stress for the next day, three days and week, with the forecast error measured rather than claimed. Every projection carries the error measured on that animal's own readings: the model is trained through each day in turn, asked to predict the days that follow, and scored against what actually happened. On one deployed sensor over fourteen days the mean absolute error for temperature was 1.40 °C at one day, 1.54 °C at three days and 1.46 °C at seven, with 99% and 100% of hours inside the stated range. Those are one site's figures. Heat stress is derived from forecast temperature and humidity together, hour by hour. Movement and rumination are shown as the range the animal normally keeps to, not as a prediction; a departure is the finding, not a forecast error. Where the coming days are hot the expected range widens, so heat is not mistaken for illness. Scenario simulation is labelled a simulation, never a forecast. It does not predict rumination. The 99% figure is the proportion of hours inside a stated range on one sensor over fourteen days, not an accuracy rate. It does not monitor continuously — roughly twenty-four minutes of a day is recorded. No battery life in months is claimed, because sleep current has not been measured. Projections assume the sensor remained on the animal; an unreported removal invalidates them. ## Sriya AgriVet Monitor v2.0 — released 15 August 2026 Version 2.0 extends the platform from cattle to three species: cattle and buffalo via the Cow Necklace®, horses via the Hayagriva Sensor, and captive elephants via Gajah. Welfare measures are chosen per species rather than adapted from the dairy set; rumination is reported for cattle and refused for horses and elephants because neither ruminates. Every species produces the same monthly report, differing only in the measures themselves. The application works only with Hanumayamma sensors and speaks only to them.
